Overwatch, the MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) hero-shooter, released by Blizzard in the spring of 2016, had as many as 9 million players in the month of September, but was taken offline Monday to make way for the launch of the sequel, Overwatch 2.
Many players in the Overwatch community are concerned over the state of the game with it now being free to play, the game requiring players to spend money to unlock new characters, whereas in the previous Overwatch all characters were free and instantly unlocked for everyone to enjoy. Several members of this online community were left hopeless as their favorite game got replaced by its sequel and on top of that, released with many issues including the inability to play without a valid phone number. This change in the terms of service left players with “feature phones” in the dust as they were not proper phone plans. Zak Kimble and Mitchell Nolan had the opportunity to speak with the President of the SIUE Esports Club. Ben speaks about Overwatch 2 in our interview and he shared a great many details with us regarding the state of this newly released game, as well as an insight into how the community feels about its release. Zak and Mitchell ask Ben Wilkes his thoughts on many of the questions the community has been asking since Overwatch 2 released and we agreed with many of his answers.
