Digital Storytelling/News Project

by Justin White and Jelen Evans

College is an amazing opportunity to not only learn and meet people who are interested in the same topics as you, but it is also a great chance to get some hands on experience within your desired field. For a lot of students, it can be daunting jumping straight into a new career, especially in the production field. But there aren’t many opportunities as great as working on SIUE’s Global Village, a digital web show where mass communication students can gain first hand experience with filming, directing, editing, and much more. For our digital storytelling project Jelen and I sat down with a proud member of SIUE’s Global Village team and talked about their experiences with the web show and what it means to them to be apart of Global Village.

We sat down with Joe Smith, a senior here at Southern Illinois University, and got his thoughts about how Global Village has not only gave him the knowledge to succeed in the production field, but also gave him immense confidence and drive towards the future. During the podcast, Joe details the creative space he goes into when it’s time to create the weekly segments for the show, as well as breaking down what we can expect from a typical production day on set. He also explains the pressures he puts on himself in order to succeed and how that translates into his work on screen.

With this podcast, we hope to bring awareness to the amazing opportunities that are right here at SIUE.
