The Topic
For our multimedia project, we would like to talk about the several new restaurants opening up near the Trace at the Parkway. The luxury apartment complex is becoming a hot spot for new businesses, primarily restaurants. The area is already home to a few thriving restaurants like the Oaxaca Mexican restaurant, the 1818 Chophouse, and the Goshen Coffee Shop. The slate of new restaurants that are in the process of opening or are coming very soon include many Saint Louis area favorites like Hi-Pointe Drive-In (Burgers), Drunken Fish (Japanese), Sauce on the Side (Calzones), and Nothing Bundt Cakes. These restaurant openings are newsworthy because they are located right off of the SIUE Campus and near Edwardsville High School. This offers a surplus of new jobs for teens and young adults in a developing business community and economic epicenter.
The Plan & Process
Over the course of the next couple of weeks, we are going to try to visit, eat at, and scope out these new locations. Then the week before the final project is due (hopefully November 6th-8th) we will meet up to record a podcast about the new restaurants. We’ll likely record 10-15 minutes of conversation about our thoughts on the new restaurants, what the consensus seems to be about them, and/or any notable impact they have had on the community and the SIUE campus. From there we can edit the conversation down to the desired 3-5 minute length. We would also like to try to snap some pictures of the new restaurants, and maybe overlay those over the podcast to compliment the audio. We still have a couple of weeks to explore these opening restaurants and gauge their reception, so an exact script can’t be made yet. But ideally, the podcast will have a brief introduction explaining the launch of these restaurants, followed by either our opinions on the restaurants or the impact that the new locations have had.
