Multimedia Story Proposal & Plan – Andrew S., Braden R.

Introduction

The current affair we want to explore is the fitness and gym community of Edwardsville. We want to do a video interview multimedia project where we interview a few (3) gym goers, with their informed consent, to get information on their views of the local Edwardsville fitness and gym scene. Topics can include the overall health standard of Edwardsville with many restaurants opening up, the lack of commercial gyms, or how Edwardsville can improve to aid those that are interested in health/fitness overall.

Newsworthiness

As people who are interested in health/fitness and live in Edwardsville to attend SIUE, there are not many options of gyms. While the SIUE is the most elaborate gym in the area, we feel that others in the area share the same sentiment that they are out of luck when wanting to get high quality exercise at another local fitness facility. we want to explore and understand how others feel about the local nature of Edwardsville’s health/fitness scene. Also, recent developments in the town’s infrastructure saw a significant visual increase in chain restaurants like Olive Garden and Raising Cane’s. Many peers have noticed and have much to say about how this affects the local health/fitness community.

Script/Interview Questions

We were thinking that because the interviewees will elaborate on each interview question, we will only ask a maximum of three questions each to keep the multimedia project video under 5 minutes.

• “What do you think about the nearby gyms in Edwardsville including our college fitness center and commercial gyms like Planet Fitness?”
• “So there have been many chain restaurants like Raising Canes and Chic-Fil-A are planning to open up in Edwardsville, what does that say about the health community here in Edwardsville?”
• “Should we have another commercial gym besides planet fitness or are you satisfied with what is already here?”

Plan

The plan to create this video interview style project is by filming a one on one standing interview with fellow gym goers about the topic. The gym goers are people I know personally and I (Andrew) will be one of them. I understand that when creating and publishing a media project that legality and consent is involved. Professor B had mentioned in class that since this is a lower, nonprofessional project just for class it is okay to not make everything official, but If need be we will print out real video/interview written consent forms for the interviewees. That being said, the interviewees I plan to have in my project are people I know personally and are friends so there may not be a need. I will use my phone camera to film, but hope to use an external recording device/mic for the interviews. The interviews will be following the above questions and script and I will let the interviewees elaborate on the questions to their own free will, but to remind them to be professional, fairly concise, and mindful at the same time. Editing will be done on Adobe Premiere, we will add our own editing transitions and B-roll to enhance the final project for a finished look. Also, we are keeping in mind that the finished product needs to be 5 minutes or less. There are only going to be 3 interviews so we can hopefully knock that out in a week with my connections and start editing.
