The Irish flag is proudly flown over Market Street where the St. Louis Downtown St. Patrick’s Day Parade took place.

The Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local Union 562 participate in the St. Louis Downtown Parade which took place on March 16th, 2024. Located in Eastern MO, they showed off their float, a leprechaun hat.

Maddie Clark, 19, blows her newly purchased horn to cheer on the people in the floats. This is her first time attending the Downtown STL parade. “The fun and festive environment is special and it is more enjoyable because of the people I was with,” says Maddie.

Shamrock paintings decorate the sidewalk in Dogtown as people make their way to the parade. The St. Louis Dogtown Parade celebrates the Irish heritage in St. Louis. Pattie Homeyer, part of the Dunn Clan float, has participated in the parade for over 20 years. “The parade showcases the Irish culture to St. Louis,” said Homeyer. “That’s what the parade is all about, projecting our heritage to keep it alive here.”

The Shamrock float is being walked down the streets of St. Louis. The shamrock is an important part of the Irish culture, especially St. Patrick’s Day. The shamrock’s three leaves represent the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit according to Irish Catholics.
