Introduction: The event is 3rd Annual Braids n Curls Hair Show, which is being held in the Morris University Center on March 24th from 5:30 to 7:30.
Observations at the event: We observed quite a few things at the event. There were a variety of people testing out products that were on display. The main displays included a Barber Shop, hair braiding, and body jewelry waists. The event consisted of people asking about the stores and the products themselves.
The content that was captured for our photo collage is:
- The sorority booth Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated with Lexie Blackwood and two other members overwatching the event.
- Yeye Solutions Skin Care booth with Hope Clark
- Graphic Design Tees and Prints, and Body Jewelry Waist Beads booth with Radiance Beard
- Pickle Booth with Laurie Baker
- Champions Barber College with an expert barber and a newbie barber information was provided by Professor Cosby
This event is newsworthy because it’s event that is being held by Sigma Gamma Rho. It was an event that was held by a campus organization. The booths, graphic tees, and other merchandise were unique and were like no other. Anytime a SIUE organization is hosting something unique, it should be considered a newsworthy story.
We went about this project by simply going to the event and capturing what we saw. All of that is listed above. The variety at the event was the highlight for us.

Pickle Booth
This is Laurie Baker, one of the attendees at the event. She had a variety of pickles at her booth.
Her response: I’m Laurie Baker, and I sell pickles. Like exotic pickles, including a selection of over 20 flavors. I sell pickles because I like pickles, but I also like making people happy. It gives me a good opportunity to get to know a lot of people. It’s a good way to meet a lot of new people.

Yeye Solutions Skin Care
This is Hope Clark. She is a member of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. She was showing off her assortment of skin care products.
Her response: I have organic body butters and also soaps that I make, everything is hand made. For me personally I’m rather particular about my skin and I try to get people more aware of how the chemicals that’s in the products that we enjoy, just giving them a better option, even the fragrance that we use can cause effects inside your body that you’re not aware of.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority
This is Lexie Blackwood, and she is a part of Sigma Gamma Rho Incorporated.
Her response: The topic of the event is the hair show, is also supports small businesses that are local around us and the ones on campus so they can get their business out there and start promoting. It’s just a business outlet for everybody to get their business out there. On this campus we have a couple of our projects like Swim 1922 where we teach people in our community how to swim. We have a lot of community service projects like previously we just did the Big Book Bag Project where we have people donate a bunch of school supplies and stuff like that to the people around the community.

Graphic Design Booth
This Lawrence Beard.
Her response: I do graphic design t-shirts, graphic design for print, and I also sell body jewelry waist beads.

Barber Shop
This is Professor Cosby from Champions Barber College.
His response: Today this is an event that’s involving the community. As you can see, we’re doing free haircuts. All of these vendors are coming together today along with Champions Barber College, just to make an impact on the community and have us to all network together.
