Sophie Hawkins / Ryan Trout Assignment 5

For the second part of the assignment, we were supposed to install WordPress and MAMP, and reflect on the process.

To start this assignment, I downloaded MAMP from their website, which lets your computer act as a server. After installing, I opened it and clicked on the Apache and MySQL server buttons. Next, I went back to the website and clicked the “phpMyAdmin” link to configure a new database.  I clicked into the database tab and created a new database called “wordpress”.  I sort of got lost at this step and I don’t think I set up the database correctly because the process doesn’t work as intended. I installed wordpress from WordPress.org and extracted the zip file, but I don’t know what to do with the files or where to put them.

I tried to follow the steps on the powerpoint lecture but I had trouble understanding all the steps.  I may have missed a step or something but I’m pretty sure I did everything the powerpoint said.  I can imagine it would be a rewarding feeling to set it up properly and get it connected, but I found the whole process challenging.

I won’t be using WordPress for my final website mainly because my site is already completed and uploaded to the SIUE server.  However, even if it wasn’t, I’m not sure I’d be able to use WordPress anyways because I don’t fully understand the process.  That being said, I could do a deeper dive and watch an in-depth tutorial that explains the whole process in detail.
