Introduction to our Idea
We will be making a podcast about the decline of hobbies in adults. We will cover information about when the decline started to happen and why hobbies are beneficial to adults. We will also be discussing why this decline might have happened. We will touch on topics about adult mental health, how people are too busy to have hobbies, and how people have multiple jobs to make money and don’t have the time to do activities that bring them joy.
Why is this important?
If we take a step back and realize we’re wasting a lot of time online, we’re missing out on valuable skills and activities that can make us happier and strengthen our minds. When asked the question, “What do you like to do for fun?” are you able to answer? We want to bring awareness that hobbies are important to have. They are important for a person’s individuality and creativeness.
Our Plan
We plan to use the USB microphones in the audio lab to record our podcast. The editing software we will use Audition to edit our podcast. To make our podcast, we will use narration between us, soundbites from interviews, and music. Some people we would like to interview would be maybe a librarian, a student on campus, and staff on campus. Some questions we would like to ask would be;
- “What hobbies do you enjoy?”
- “Do you have free time to enjoy those hobbies?”
- “What takes up your time that you wish you could do your hobby instead?”
- “Do you feel like you would be happier if you could do your hobby more?”
We will also be talking from experience and what our hobbies are, what keeps us from our hobbies, and why we think hobbies are good to have.
In terms of content we plan to include, we are planning to speak with students and other adults our age as well as members of other demographics to gauge their responses about their current hobbies, and how they view the decline in recent years.
Speaking with others in the community to gain a sense of their perspective on the subject will give us a lot to work with and help further our conversation in the project. During our podcast, we would like to discuss the possible causes and effects of the decline in adult intellectual hobbies in recent years and even discuss possible solutions to the problem and ways to re-involve the younger generations.
